My Birthday Wish..........

........did NOT come true!!

Nope, but at least it still keeps the kids entertained!!

Help!!!  They're  attacking us!!!!

You see, when my husband and I met 12 years ago, I was amazed with his dreadlocks.  They were very unique, and I was quite smitten.  But they are alot of work.  As the years passed, his dreads grew, and they began to get in the way........hanging on your shoulder as he walked by you, grazing your plate of food and finding their way onto my pillow at night (I'm starting to wonder if they weren't placed there on purpose.....hmmmm)!!  They have become toys to the boys, and on occasion, if one of them is lucky, one would tear right off.  Yeah, OUCH!  Sorry honey!

Yes, they are real (not extensions).  And yes, they are heavy.  They are heavy just to hold them dry, imagine when they are wet??  Or, imagine carrying that extra weight pulling on your neck.  He has had them for 17 years now.  With that said, he is now 17 years older.....the "BIG 4-0" this June.  I don't think all those aches and pains are due "just" from age.  I can only imagine how light he will feel.  So with that said.....

"FREE me YOURSELF" honey:)
(We've all done our time)

My 37th birthday was one week ago today.  And my birthday wish.......did NOT come true!  So, I must face reality......if you can't beat 'em........find some more constructive ways to use them!  LOL:)

Like, a ruler, to measure how much the kids have grown!!

Boy, how they have grown.............the boys and the dreadlocks!!

You know how sometimes, when we catch ourselves staring at our children, wondering what they will look like 20 yrs. from now................

On second thought, why rush things.......let's just take it one day at a time!!!!

Oh well, I'll keep on wishing.........after all, wishes, eventually "DO" come true!

  1. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!!!! When my hubby was unemployed he went through a phase of growing a beard and then slowly shaving a piece of it at a time. I don't know which phase was worse, the mutton chops were bad, the mustache was bad, the whole thing was bad! I was very lucky that he shaved it all again when he got a job!!!!

  2. You have me completely cracking up right now!!! From your profile picture (and apparantly every other pic I have seen of your husband is head on) I had no idea he had dreadlocks. I had to read down before I was even sure it WAS your hubby. I agree with you.....the big 4-0 should be the turning point..time to grow up :) They are kind of cool though. I love the picture of Landon and what he will look like when he grows up.

  3. I have to ask... what does he do with them at work? And, I've always heard that dreadlocks smell.

  5. LOL, Stephanie.....my husband works for the Trial Court and is the Manager of a Juvenile Resource Center. Not just because he is my husband (because, dreadlocks are not uncommon where we live), his are kept extremely neat and clean. If you can see in the first picture, his dreadlocks are very thin and neat. They have to be presentable for the job he does. There are lots of myths to dreadlocks. Yes, they can be washed. And they are no smellier than anyone else's hair if you wash them every few days. I appreciate your comment so much....you see, we blog to educate!!

  13. It took me a while to realise they were for real, I mean it's tough to get hair to grow that long, so in a way he's lucky, I mean even if I didn't cut my hair for years it would never grow beyond a certain length. He must also be having very thick hair! I know you're fed up with them but hats off to him for his patience in letting them get that long! And don't worry I am sure there will come a point in his life when they'll become too much of a weight to carry around.
Also belated birthday wishes for you and I really loved the pics of the kids and the hair!!!

  16. Funny post! And a gorgeous blog too. As a woman who has had very long hair my big question is WHY? Long hair is such a pain in the neck:).
I suppose it is a claim to fame to have hair that long.... He must get some stigma from them though.
I'm with you on the wishes for hubbies part too- mine grew a mustache once and I HATED it! But he seemed to be going through something and we endured.
Looking forward to reading more about you Kelly. Thanks for coming by my blog!
